      Windows MS-SQL failed with error code 268

      This article is for Amanda Enterprise (AE) 

      Issue Symptoms

      Following message appears in the ZMC Report Summary page for the backup run or in the email from the Amanda software

      Issue Description

      This issue is related to Volume Shadow Copy Service. A critical component required by the Volume Shadow Copy service is not registered. This will happen if an error occurred during Windows setup or during installation of Volume Shadow Copy provider.

      Resolution

      Please apply Microsoft hotfix 904418 and perform backup again.

      This problem occurs because the SQL Server 2000 Virtual Device Interface (Sqlvdi.dll) is a 32-bit DLL. The 64-bit Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS) writer that is included with the x64 edition of Windows Server 2003 requires x64 edition of Sqlvdi.dll to work correctly.
