How to backup a Linux HA cluster

This article is for Amanda Enterprise (AE)

Amanda Enterprise can be used to backup a Linux HA cluster that uses shared storage or DRBD. Backups of the server will fail if failover occurs during the backup process. Backup will be performed in the next scheduled run.

  1. Amanda client must be installed on all physical nodes in the Linux HA cluster. Please note that only one Zmanda license is required because floating IP address (that can be active only on one physical node) is being used for the configuration. If you are using physical node's IP address (that does not failover), you will need additional licenses.
  2. Amanda client state directory (/var/lib/amanda) must be in shared disk or must be replicated using DRBD.
  3. All directories or applications being backed up from the Linux cluster must be configured to use floating IP address instead of physical node host names.  The directories or applications being backed up are configured in ZMC Backup| What page.
