How to address ownership and permission changes with selective restores

Problem:

During selective restores using Explore & Select or Search Specific files, the ownership and permissions of directories in the user-specified destination are not preserved. This can lead to unexpected behavior and access issues for users.

Solution:

To prevent unintentional changes in permissions and ownership, users are encouraged to employ one of the following conflict resolution strategies. This is especially important when performing selective restores in directories within the target restore directory.

  1. Rename the restored directory by appending the date: This adds the date to the directory name, preventing conflicts with existing directories and preserving the permissions of the original directory.

  2. Rename the restored directory by appending a digit: This adds a unique digit to the directory name, similar to the date option, preventing conflicts and preserving the permissions of the original directory.

Note: After a selective restore, the ownership of the root directory (target restore directory) will be changed to root by default. You will need to manually correct this ownership to match your desired settings.

By following these solutions, you can ensure that directory ownership and permissions remain intact after selective restores, preventing any unexpected access issues.
